The Coons last name has been a staple at the Chili Bowl for the last 3 decades. This year though, 30 years after Jerry made his first Chili Bowl start, his son Cale will be making his first run at a Golden Driller. Cale has teamed up with Joe Dooling and Curb Agajanian to enter the #63 machine in the 2024 race. “My father and I are very proud to return to the Chili Bowl Nationals with rookie driver 14-year-old (turning 15 in December) Cale Coons!” Dooling states excitedly. “Joining us in this year’s race as a co-entrant is Curb Agajanian. Mike and Cary supported Bryan Clauson in our #63 midget in the 2014 Chili Bowl as we swept the event that year.” Dooling has been a supporter of Cale’s racing endeavors since his first quarter midget when he was just five years old. Cale’s father Jerry previously piloted the #63 to a 6th place A Main finish in 2013.
Chili Bowl is just the beginning of an exciting season for the Dooling/Coons duo. Dooling states, “Cale Coons will campaign the 63 Midget for the Dooling Family for the 2024 USAC SpeeD2 Midwest Thunder Midget Series and will also run a handful of USAC National Series races and a few POWRI shows.”
“I am so thankful to Joe for the opportunity he has given me. Joe and his dad have been a part of our lives for as long as I can remember, so having him give me a chance in his midget means a lot,” Cale adds.
Coons and Dooling both want to thank Brodie Hayward for his support.
